Welcome to Our Favourite Things (pretty self-explanatory, no?). The FLEETSTREET team tries a lot of stuff. Here are a few gym-bag essentials we especially appreciate.
Cute Non-Slip Socks
“I am obsessed with these Mary Jane–style studio socks. I got them from Pop Physique (1560 Yonge Street, Toronto). The ballet vocab underneath makes me happy. I love that I don’t have to be pedi-ready for a barre/Pilates class, and that I can wear them inside my gym-to-street sneakers.” —Lisa Hannam, Senior Editor
Go-Anywhere Duffle
“Before I get into what’s in my gym bag, lemme tell you about my gym bag. It’s the medium Dagne Dover Landon Carryall. It’s roomy enough to schelp my life—i.e., a change of clothes, my laptop (there’s a padded sleeve for it), beauty products and more. But there are lots of handy pockets to keep the jumble in check, and it’s made of neoprene (points for being sturdy and washable). And it’s not too casual, so I can take it wherever I’m going pre- or post-gym.” —Wing Sze Tang, Editor-in-Chief
Cleansing Wipes
“I sweat aggressively when I work out, and if I don’t clean my face immediately afterwards I tend to break out. To remove what feels like a layer of dirt on my face, I’m a fan of these Neutrogena All-in-One Make-up Removing Cleansing Wipes. They’re especially useful for a quick refresh when I don’t plan on going home right away.” —Katie Sin, Special Projects Lead
Tinted Sunscreen
“I’m religious about putting on an SPF before I go anywhere, and since no sunscreen is sweat-proof—at best, it might be sweat-resistant—I reapply post-workout. I like this one because it’s tinted, so I don’t have to fuss around with foundation at the gym.” —Wing Sze Tang, Editor-in-Chief
Snack Bar
“When I’m lacking motivation to go to the gym, it’s usually because I don’t feel like I have the physical energy. So I like to throw a couple of granola bars into my gym bag to fuel up before my workout. Lately, I’ve been really into these MadeGood Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, which also make a great post-workout treat.” —Katie Sin, Special Projects Lead
Hair Perfume
“Yes, this is a real indulgence in my gym bag. I’m not oblivious to that. But I often have to go somewhere after a fitness class, and I see this as worth the investment. Although it is an all-over body spray, I love that I can use it in my hair (there’s less drying alcohol). The scent is floral and musky, as you’d expect from Chanel No. 5, but the L’Eau version is a lighter take on the fragrance. And unlike a glass bottle of perfume, I can just toss this in my bag.” —Lisa Hannam, Senior Editor
