Recipe: Nutella Cinnamon Rolls

Love cinnamon rolls? Love Nutella? Then you will love, love, love this recipe.

A treat you can put into the shape of a tree. How fun is that? While we at FLEETSTREET love a gooey dessert, we love it even more when a decadent hazelnut spread is involved. While Nutella is piped for this recipe, we will be taking out a spoon out – just to dip in the jar and lick because, well, why not!?

Nutella Cinnamon Rolls

Makes 12 servings. Recipe courtesy of Nutella.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ⅔ cups flour
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 ½ tbsp yeast
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • ½ tbsp of cinnamon
  • ¾ cup Nutella (for piping)

Do I have to cut out sugar completely?

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, add flour. Press the bottom of a ladle into the flour to create a well in the centre. Gently pour milk into the well, then add sugar and yeast. Mix with a fork and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Add 2 eggs and combine with a mixer (set aside last egg in the fridge until step 6.) Then, knead by hand until dough is smooth. Let the dough rest for 2 hours, then refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Once the dough has finished setting, prepare the cinnamon mixture. Add brown sugar, butter and cinnamon into a separate, microwave-safe bowl, and mix. Using the melt setting on your microwave.
  4. Roll out the dough until about ¾-inch thick. Then spread evenly the cinnamon mixture over the dough onto the edges. Roll the dough into a log, and slice it into small rolls. Place each slice into a large muffin or cup. Arrange them into a Christmas tree shape on a baking tray. Cover them with a towel and allow them to rest for 2 hours. (Tip: Kitchen twine works great for for keeping the tree shape.)
  5. Preheat the oven to 350-degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. Beat the last egg and brush egg wash over the rolls. Place the rolls in the oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until they turn golden brown and when centre reaches 180-degrees Fahrenheit.
  7. Let cinnamon rolls cool. When cool to touch, pipe swirls of Nutella on each bun, following the creases in the rolls.
